About Darul Qur'an

The Institute's Beginnings

The Institute's Beginnings

It all began as a heartfelt endeavour to connect with Allah (SWT) through His divine book, the Qur’an. While embarking on this journey in Strand Western Cape, I found profound inspiration in the way that my teacher’s, Hafidh Yusuf Mohamed and Muallimah Majeedah Isaacs taught and applied Tajweed rules, which resulted in a transformative improvement in my own Qur’anic recitation.

I firmly set my intention and made it my purpose that when I return to my hometown, Port Elizabeth, my primary focus would be on the Qur’an, striving to improve its recitation and actively encouraging girls to memorize it, by the permission of Allah SWT.

Alhamdulilah, with the unwavering support and encouragement of my beloved husband, Shaykh Rushdie Nackerdien, my parents, Imam Ridwaan, Muallimah Najmah Lagardien, my dedicated teachers, especially Muallimah Abeedah Peer and the members of our community, my dream of establishing an institution focusing only on the Qur’an came to life.

In the initial stages, our classes took place in my living room at Masjid Taqwa, accommodating 10 to 20 students spread across three separate classes. During this time, I was fortunate to have Ustadha Tashrieqah Mohamed to assist me. Her enduring support has played a significant role in the madrasah development. May Allah abundantly reward Ustadha for her steadfast dedication Ameen!

Three years later, as our class size grew and issues arose with the space we were utilizing, I felt a stagnation within the institute and yearned for us to have our own premises in order to grow. Once again, I made a heartfelt intention to make this move, entrusting it to Allah SWT’s wisdom as there were no funds available at that time. All I could afford to do to solidify this intention was to reach out to Brother Zaahir Jappie who always lends his assistance to madaaris and who has done all our graphics alhamdulilah, I asked him to design a logo for our madrasah.

Wallaahi! One week later, this niyyah and vision took a remarkable turn when an act of incredible generosity reshaped our path.

2021 to date

Uncle Goesnie Jappie & his wife, Aunty Narrimah Jappie, selflessly and beautifully renovated and granted us permission to use a building with ample classrooms and yard space, enabling our institute to flourish and grow. Their unwavering dedication to our institute knows no bounds. Through their tireless efforts, they transformed a building into a Qur’anic & Islamic educational space that has paved the way for the realization of a tarbiyah class, where children are imbued with a steadfast awareness of Allah and a genuine affection for embracing and embodying the prophetic teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Their generosity has not only given our school a physical home but also planted the seeds of hope and opportunity for countless students to thrive in a conducive learning environment. May Allah SWT always be pleased with them, remove all obstacles from their path and reward them with nothing less than Jannatul Firdous ameen! As well as to each and every person who has supported or contributed towards DQI in the form of duas or any way possible aameen. Alhamdulilah, our family has expanded significantly since 2018. We started with only two classes and around 35 students, and now we offer eight different classes with seven dedicated Asaatitha and approximately 80 students.

Alhamdulilah, all praise and thanks are due to Allah SWT firstly for his endless bounties and favours upon us and for facilitating and utilizing us for the service of deen. May Allah accept our meagre efforts, guide us and continuously use us for the service of deen ameen.  May the Qur’an be the light of our hearts, our guide in this world, noor in our graves and our intercessor in the hereafter ameen yaa Rabb AL aalameen.

Our Mission

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

And We have certainly made the Qur’an easy to remember.

So is there anyone who will be mindful?

Surah Al-Qamar | Verse 22

Here are some compelling reasons why parents should consider Darul Qur’an as a fundamental part of their children’s upbringing.

1. Qur'anic Education for Life

At Darul Qur’an , our aim extends beyond just memorizing the Qur’an. We provide children with a captivating and enjoyable experience, immersing them in the verses, meanings, and lessons of the Qur’an. Through this approach, we empower them with a solid grasp of the Qur’an’s teachings, enabling them to make wise decisions, cultivate a moral compass, and confront life’s challenges with integrity and wisdom.

2. Qualified and Nurturing Instructors

The Asaatitha at Darul Qur’an are more than just teachers; they are dedicated mentors who have a profound passion for imparting the beauty and significance of the Qur’an and Sunnah to young minds. These mentors not only set an example, inspiring children to form a lifelong connection with the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah SWT be upon him), but they also walk the path of spirituality alongside our learners, fostering collective growth.

3. Nurturing an Islamic Identity

An Islamic identity becomes increasingly crucial in our ever-evolving world. Our curriculum will emphasize essential topics such as “Who am I? Confident Muslimah” and “Living through the Names of Allah SWT,” all of which are integral parts of Tazkiyatun Nafs, or the purification of one’s soul and inner self. By purifying our hearts and intentions, we can lead lives characterized by righteousness, empathy, and self-control, aligning our actions with Islamic values. This ongoing journey of self-improvement nurtures inner peace and strengthens our connection with Allah SWT.

4. Holistic Development

While Qur’anic education is at the heart of Darul Qur’an, the institution also recognizes the importance of holistic development. Alongside Qur’anic studies, children engage in various extracurricular activities that promote physical fitness, creativity, and social skills. This balanced approach ensures that children thrive academically, spiritually, and socially.

5. Positive Peer Environment

Surrounding children with like-minded peers who share their values is essential for their growth. Darul Qur’an brings together a diverse community of students who are passionate about Qur’anic learning and emulating the sunnah. This supportive network of friends encourages healthy competition, cooperation, and a sense of camaraderie, cultivating an atmosphere that nurtures both personal and spiritual growth.
